      Abstract
Paleolithic art found in the caves of Lascaux and Font-de-Gaume was found
to have been influenced by the acoustic character of the chambers in which
they had been drawn. Drawings of ungulates are more likely to be found
in chambers that can echo percussive noises to produce sounds similar
to hoofbeats, while acoustically silent chambers are drawn with felines.
These caves may have significance in ritual as hunters summoned game animals
by imitating the sound of whole herds for them to hunt.
